Ghana has once again shown its remarkable spirit of generosity, securing the 3rd position globally in the latest World Giving Report. The annual report, published by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), measures how willing people around the world are to help others, whether through donating money, volunteering time, or assisting strangers.
According to the 2025 edition of the report, Ghana climbed the ranks due to its citizens’ consistent acts of kindness, strong community values, and cultural emphasis on mutual support. The report surveyed over 140 countries, focusing on three main indicators: helping a stranger, donating to charity, and volunteering time.
Ghana’s high ranking is largely attributed to an overwhelming percentage of its citizens reporting that they helped someone they didn’t know in the past month. Community support systems, religious values, and traditional norms such as “nnoboa”—a communal labor-sharing system—have all played a significant role in promoting generosity across the country.
CAF’s CEO, Neil Heslop, commended Ghana, saying, “In a world facing economic and social turbulence, Ghana has become a shining example of human kindness and solidarity. Their cultural dedication to helping one another continues to inspire globally.”
Ghana sits behind only Indonesia and Kenya, which ranked first and second respectively, while outperforming major economies and developed nations. This remarkable achievement comes at a time when many countries are struggling with inflation, rising inequality, and social fragmentation.
Ghanaian organizations and individuals alike continue to engage in community service, disaster relief efforts, educational support for the underprivileged, and nationwide donation drives. The surge in digital giving and mobile money platforms has also made it easier for people across the country to contribute to causes they care about.
The ranking has been met with pride by many Ghanaians, who view the recognition as a validation of their long-standing cultural values rooted in unity, empathy, and compassion.
As the world continues to grapple with humanitarian challenges, Ghana’s story serves as a powerful reminder that generosity transcends economic status—and that nations can lead not just by wealth, but by heart.
